Platform Mastering for Global Distribution
Ensure your music translates perfectly across every listening environment, from smartphone speakers and streaming algorithms to high-end club stacks and vinyl pressings.
In the modern music industry, a single stereo master is rarely sufficient. Each distribution channel—whether it is a lossy streaming codec, a high-resolution digital store, a physical vinyl record, or a massive club PA system—processes audio differently. If a track is mastered too hot for Spotify, the platform's internal limiter will trigger, often resulting in a loss of punch and distorted transients. Conversely, a master designed for streaming may lack the necessary energy and headroom required to move air in a professional club setting.
Platform Mastering at Bambochezone is a precision engineering service designed to solve these technical discrepancies. We do not just apply a limiter to make the track loud; we analyse the frequency response and dynamic range of your specific genre to create tailored versions of your master. By managing Integrated LUFS and True Peak levels with surgical precision, we ensure that your artistic vision remains intact regardless of where the listener presses play.
The Platform Optimisation Process
Technical Analysis
We begin by analysing your pre-master for phase coherence, spectral balance, and existing headroom to determine the optimal starting point for each target format.
Targeted Processing
Using high-end outboard gear and digital precision, we apply specific limiting and EQ curves tailored to the delivery requirements of streaming, vinyl, or club systems.
Loudness Verification
We verify each version against industry-standard loudness meters, ensuring the True Peak does not exceed -1.0 dBTP to avoid inter-sample clipping during codec conversion.
Final Validation
The masters are auditioned in our 22m² control room on ATC SCM25A monitors to ensure the translation is consistent across the frequency spectrum.
Who is this service for?
This service is essential for independent artists, producers, and small labels who are preparing a professional release. If you have a finished mix but are unsure how it will sound on a vinyl lathe or whether it will be "turned down" by Spotify's normalisation algorithms, Platform Mastering provides the necessary security. It is particularly vital for electronic music producers (Techno, House, EDM) where club translation is the primary goal, and for singer-songwriters who want to ensure their dynamics aren't crushed by streaming platforms.
By investing in format-specific masters, you remove the guesswork from the distribution process. Instead of hoping the track sounds acceptable everywhere, you provide the distributor with files that are mathematically and sonically optimised for the intended medium. This approach prevents the "flattening" effect that occurs when a single file is forced to fit multiple incompatible technical standards.
How the workflow operates
The process is streamlined for online collaboration. Once you select the Platform Mastering pack, you upload your high-resolution WAV files via our secure transfer system. We operate on a strict technical framework: all incoming files must be at least 44.1kHz and 24-bit, with at least -6dB of headroom to allow for precise peak management. This ensures that no clipping is embedded into the file before we begin our processing.
After the initial processing, we provide you with a set of masters for review. You have three rounds of revisions included in the price to ensure the tonal balance meets your expectations. Once approved, the final high-resolution files are delivered along with a technical report detailing the LUFS and True Peak values for each version. This documentation is critical for your distributor to ensure the files are handled correctly.
What you need to prepare
To achieve professional results, please provide the following technical specifications:
- The final mix in WAV format (24-bit, minimum 44.1kHz).
- A minimum of -6dB headroom (no limiters or clipping on the master bus).
- A brief description of the primary target (e.g., "Primarily for Spotify and Club use").
- Reference tracks that represent the loudness and feel you are aiming for.
Providing clean, uncompressed files is critical. If the files are already limited or clipped, we may need to perform additional corrective work, which could impact the delivery timeline and the final dynamic range of the master.
What you receive upon completion
Our Platform Mastering pack is comprehensive. You will not receive a single file, but a structured delivery folder containing:
- Streaming Master: Optimised for Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal (target LUFS based on genre).
- Club Master: A version with higher dynamic range and specific low-end focus for large-scale PA systems.
- Vinyl-Ready Master: A version with reduced high-frequency sibilance and controlled low-end to prevent needle skipping.
- Technical Report: A PDF documenting the Integrated LUFS, True Peak, and LRA (Loudness Range) for each file.
- Delivery Formats: All files delivered as 24-bit WAVs and high-quality MP3s for quick review.
Delivery timelines and revisions
The average turnaround for Platform Mastering is 5 business days. This window allows our engineers to perform the necessary processing and conduct critical listening sessions in the control room. If you require a faster turnaround, a rush fee of 30% is applied to the total cost, which moves your project to the front of the queue.
We include 3 rounds of revisions per track. We believe in a collaborative approach; if the club master needs a slight adjustment in the sub-bass region or the streaming version feels too compressed, we will refine it until it is correct. All revisions must be requested within the project timeframe to ensure efficient scheduling and delivery.
What is NOT included
It is important to distinguish mastering from mixing. Platform Mastering does not include the following services:
- Individual track processing or automation (please see our Professional Mixing service).
- Vocal tuning or timing correction (available via Vocal Editing & Tuning).
- Arrangement changes or adding new elements to the song.
- Distribution services or uploading the tracks to aggregators like DistroKid or TuneCore.
If your mix requires significant balancing before it can be mastered, we recommend our mixing services first to ensure the foundation is solid. Mastering cannot fix a poor mix; it can only enhance a good one and optimise it for different platforms.
Pricing and GST
Our pricing is transparent and based on the specific requirements of the target platforms. For Australian clients, all prices are subject to 10% GST. The "Streaming/Vinyl/Club Pack" is a bundled service that provides the most value by covering all major distribution bases in one go.
| Service Level | Price (inc GST) | Price (ex GST) | Unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Streaming/Vinyl/Club Pack | A$180 | A$163.64 | per track |
Technical Guidance
Understanding the science of loudness is key to a successful release. We highly recommend reading our guide on Streaming Loudness Made Simple to understand why "louder" isn't always better in the age of normalisation. Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I just use one master for everything?
Different platforms have different "ceiling" and "floor" requirements. A vinyl record can distort if the bass is too centered or the highs are too sharp, while a streaming platform will automatically lower the volume of a track that is too loud, often making it sound flatter than a track mastered specifically for that platform's LUFS target.
What is the difference between True Peak and Sample Peak?
Sample peak only measures the digital peaks of the waveform. True Peak accounts for the inter-sample peaks that occur when the digital signal is converted back to analogue. If True Peaks are too high, they cause audible clipping during the lossy compression used by streaming services.
Do you provide a separate master for Atmos or Spatial Audio?
The Platform Mastering pack focuses on stereo delivery (2.0). Spatial audio and Atmos require a different stem-based approach and specific monitoring environments. Please contact us for a custom quote regarding immersive audio.
How do you handle the "Vinyl" version specifically?
Vinyl mastering involves managing the low-end energy to ensure the needle stays in the groove and controlling the high-frequency transients to prevent sibilance. We create a version that preserves the punch but respects the physical limitations of the vinyl medium.
